Young guns Daniel Arzani, Ruon Tongyik and Bruce Kamau have been called up to the Australian U23 side for a training camp ahead of the 2018 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers.

The trio’s performances in the A-League and Foxtel National Youth League have caught the eye of Head Coach Josep Gombau and will travel to the Central Coast for the three-day camp from January 30 to February 1.

The 2018 U23 Asian Cup qualifiers will begin in July 2017 with Gombau looking to get the most out of the camp with little distraction to the players’ aspirations in the league.

“This is the first step for us to qualify for the U23 Asian Cup in 2018,” Gombau said. “I’m excited to be working with these young players who are only one step away from playing with the Socceroos.

“Many of them are playing good football in the A-League and we will be able to see them working together to start building the understanding required to succeed in the Asian Cup qualifiers and also observe how they train in the systems we want to play.

“Qualifying for Asian Cups and World Cups is an important part of the development of young players and for football in Australia and this camp is our first preparation opportunity leading into the July qualifiers.”

Arzani, Tongyik and Kamau will return to full training with the side on the February 2 as City prepare for the Melbourne Derby on February 4.
