Ivan Franjic

An integral part of the Socceroos defensive unit, Ivan Franjic arrives at Melbourne City FC with a wealth of domestic and international experience.

The 27-year-old returns to his birthplace of Melbourne, where he commenced his footballing career at local clubs St Albans Saints, Melbourne Knights and Oakleigh Cannons in the Victorian Premier League.

Franjic first broke into the Hyundai A-League in 2009 with Brisbane Roar and became an integral part of Ange Postecoglou’s side, winning two Premierships and three Championships in his 115 appearances at the club. His excellent performances culminated in his selection in the A-League All Star team in 2011, and he was recently named in the PFA Team of the Decade.

Regarded as Australia’s current first-choice right-back, Franjic’s was rewarded for his consistent domestic performances with a call up to national team in 2012, making his Socceroos debut against Hong Kong in December of that year.

Franjic has since made 20 appearance for his country, featuring in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and the Socceroos triumphant 2015 AFC Asian Cup campaign.

After a short spell at FC Torpedo Moscow in Russia, Franjic joins Melbourne City FC ahead of the 2015/16 Hyundai A-League season on a three-year deal.
