Jonatan Germano

Germano deploys toughness in defence and poise going forward. Such versatility makes him a crucial member of the Melbourne City team. In November 2011 Germano infamously stole the football headlines with a mischievous antic after scoring against Brisbane Roar. As a salute to the festive season he pulled a Santa hat from his shorts as part of his celebration, endearing him to the Club’s faithful and beyond.

Germano is no stranger to playing football abroad after stints in Croatia and Paraguay, but he has settled well into his adopted hometown of Melbourne. Jonatan and his partner have a young son and he says the city is “a paradise for my family life”, citing the low crime rate and the relaxed lifestyle as particularly important.

In July 2011, Germano traveled to Australia for a one-month trial with A-League club Melbourne City, where he ‘surprised’ the team with his talent. He played in two trials for the club, playing a full 90 minutes in both games.

At the end of July, he returned to his homeland after impressing coaches John van‘t Schip, Ante Milicic and John Aloisi. On 5 September 2011 he officially signed with Melbourne City and given the number 13 shirt.
