Melbourne City FC’s latest eSports player Josh Wood can’t wait to pull on the City shirt and represent the Club in the e-League after being drafted last week.

Wood will compete in the PS4 competition with current eSports player Marcus Gomes fronting up on the XBOX side of the draw.

After being selected with the third pick of the e-League draft, Wood is still pinching himself with the opportunity that lies ahead.

“I still can’t believe I’m here. Going back to last Thursday when the draft was on, it was a great experience for me,” Wood said.

“It’s amazing to have a new competition, I can’t wait to be a part of it. I’ve played a lot of the other competitors online and they are all good lads. I think it’ll be good fun playing them.”

Wood intends to hit the ground running in City Blue as he prepares for a blockbuster Round 1 clash with Sydney FC’s eSports representative Mark Brijeski and says his first priority is winning games.

“I want to win it, we’ll see how we go but I think Marcus and I will be a good team and a team to look out for,” he said.

“With the growth of eSports around the world, it’s massive and to be a part of it and this is a big deal for me. To see clubs like Manchester City, New York City and Melbourne City involved in eSports, it’s an honour to be playing alongside the types of players that play for these clubs.”

Melbourne City will kick-off its e-League season on Thursday 15 February against Sydney FC. The matches will be broadcast live on FOX Sports and online with Twitch.
