Melbourne City FC will be back in action in the Westfield W-League on Thursday night when it takes on Adelaide United at Marden Sports Complex.
City are coming off the back of its first win of the season and will be looking to carry that momentum into Thursday’s clash.
19-year-old midfielder Leah Davidson has been improving each game for City and is starting to look very comfortable at the level after making the move over from Brisbane Roar in the off-season.
Davidson and City will be squaring off against an Adelaide line-up led by captain Dylan Holmes.
Holmes has made 34 appearances for the Reds and is now in her fourth W-League season at the club.
City has currently played one more match than Adelaide in the early stages of this unpredictable W-League season.
In these matches so far, both Davidson and Holmes have been more than happy to drop back and help their defenders.
Davidson has attempted 12 tackles with a success rate of 75% while Holmes has been successful with all six of her efforts to win the ball back for her team.
The United captain averages 35.5 passes per 90 minutes and finds a team mate on average 73% of the time.
Davidson’s numbers are a little lower in these areas (26.3 passes per 90 mins at a success rate of 69%) but she has been able to make three key passes unlike her United counterpart who hasn’t made one.
Holmes has looked the more threatening of the two going forward in the early stages of the season and has hit the target twice from three shots while Davidson’s only attempt so far this season was on target.
