With only a handful of games remaining, the race for a top two finish isn’t the only thing heating up, with the golden boot tally set to go right down to the wire.

Attacking duo Jamie Maclaren and Adam Le Fondre head into Saturday’s huge clash with 18 goals apiece this season. Despite playing two less games than Le Fondre, City’s star number nine has been at his clinical best this season, netting 18 goals from 33 shots on target.

City’s Socceroos striker has averaged a goal per 96.9 minutes, an impressive feat, with 17 of his 18 goals coming from inside the box. Arguably the best in the business from within the area, Macca’s versatility has been on show with 12 right foot goals, four left and two headed.

Both extremely experienced footballers, the duo have also showcased their ability to create chances for their teammates. Le Fondre’s ability to drift wide is demonstrated by the seven successful crosses he’s played this season, while Macca does his best work close to goal.

Maclaren’s ability to make things happen is evident through his four assists from 11 key passes – directly contributing to 22 of City’s 42 goals this season. In comparison, Le Fondre has made 30 key passes and registered one assist.

While Macca does his best work within the box, Le Fondre’s ability to pick up the ball and drive towards defenders is demonstrated through his 14 successful dribbles.

Crunching the numbers only reinforces what we all know and that’s that both sets of defenders will be kept on their toes to nullify the impact of both Maclaren and Le Fondre.

All it takes is one chance at either end and these two are more than capable of making their mark on the game.
