Kilkenny: We can’t let the result affect how we move forward

It was a disappointing result for City on Friday night against the Western Sydney Wanderers and midfielder Neil Kilkenny believes his side can’t dwell on the result, with an important three weeks ahead of them.

The 3-1 result at Spotless Stadium denied City three wins on the trot and their first three away wins since December 2011 as they were halted by Brendon Santalab’s hat-trick.

Despite the result, Kilkenny has urged his chargers to not allow the result to affect their confidence heading into the final weeks of the regular season, saying it’s important to learn the lesson and take that into next week.

“It’s one of those things where sometimes we don’t perform and to be fair Western Sydney worked hard as well but we’re looking forward to the next game,” Kilkenny said.

“I think the start of the game was great. We haven’t started too well this season but we did that against the Wanderers. We need to stay together and try picking up wins along the way and we do that again this week.

“I don’t like to look back too often. It’s about getting the confidence for the next game against Sydney.”

One of the Club’s most consistent performers this season, Kilkenny played another major role in opening the scoring for his side against the Wanderers.

His strike in the third minute continued his impressive form this season and the drive to perform and give his all for the side drives the former Preston North End man to keep his standards high.

“I have to try to keep my performances as high as possible, I was happy to score another goal for the side.” he said.

“Every player has their up’s and down’s during the season but you can’t get too down when you don’t play too well and you can’t get too up when you are doing well.

“I try and be happy every day. I’m grateful for what I have and I enjoy my job. I try and keep a level head and try and be a positive person every day.
