City v Macarthur

The clash

Melbourne City will come into this clash high on confidence following a historic 0-6 Derby win that extends the team’s unbeaten run to three games.

Everyone was fighting to get their name on the scoresheet on Saturday, with Connor Metcalfe the only player to net twice, his brace separating goals to Jamie Maclaren, Florin Berenguer, Rostyn Griffiths and Stefan Colakovski.

It was a night that will live long in the memory of City fans, with a clean sheet capping off an impeccable performance from the team.

This Friday’s opposition, Macarthur FC, have made a strong start to life in the A-League, currently occupying second place after 11 games.

The Bulls’ most recent result, however, was a 2-0 defeat to Central Coast Mariners on Monday night, extending the gap between the two sides at the top of the table.

The two-goal margin doesn’t quite reflect the disparity between the teams throughout the game, with both sides creating a comparable quantity and quality of chances, but the Mariners were simply more clinical whilst doing well to keep the Bulls out at the other end.

Macarthur’s danger man will certainly be striker Matt Derbyshire, who narrowly trails Jamie Maclaren for the golden boot. Derbyshire boasts seven goals and one assist this campaign, and will be looking to prove the differential between the teams on Friday night.

A City win, on the other hand, would take the side past Macarthur into second place, with games in-hand on the teams around us.
