It has been a long 12 month for Ross McCormack’s career but the Scotsman says his first month in Melbourne has made him enjoy football again.

McCormack joined Aston Villa from Fulham in August 2016 and since his move, the forward is the first to say his time at the club has not been what he envisaged.

A loan move to Melbourne City, three starting roles and a goal later, The former Scottish international is enjoying his job again and says the environment in Melbourne has allowed him to prosper.

“It’s been a difficult last year since I went to Aston Villa,” McCormack said.

“I keep saying it but it’s just good to come in every day and train and feel a part of the group with a chance of playing on a Friday and Saturday. For the last year, there hasn’t really been that chance.

“The lads, coaching staff and everyone around the training ground have been [second to none]. It’s been so easy to settle in and that’s been a really good thing for me.

“I just want to put a smile back on my face really.”

His opening month in Melbourne culminated with his first goal for the Club as he fired the winner against Wellington Phoenix on Saturday night and the forward believes it make things easier when the monkey is off the back.

“It was good because the longer it goes on and you’re not scoring, you start to feel a bit more pressure on yourself so it was nice to see it go in,” he said.

“I think [my start has] been good. It’s been different to what I’m used to in England but technically, I think it’s been better than I thought it was going to be.

“You always get people back home back home saying ‘he’ll score loads over there’ but it’s not that easy, it doesn’t work like that.

“I think other players have had chances to score, it’s just not that many have fallen to me. On a whole, the team have been good attacking wise. We’ve scored five in three so you take that at the start of the season for sure. Now it’s all about consistency.”

It all continues this Saturday night for McCormack and City as they face Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium looking to continue their perfect start to the season.
