City midfielder Riley McGree has been nominated for the FIFA Puskas Award – the global goal of the year award – for his scorpion goal ironically against his new side in the 2017/18 A-League Semi Final.
McGree’s effort that went global stunned the world with an audacious effort that looped over Dean Bouzanis, securing Newcastle’s passage to the Grand Final.
The midfielder has been nominated alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohammad Salah for the award ahead of the 2018 FIFA Football Awards in London on 24 September.
