Melbourne City commence City Strikers program

Melbourne City FC with the support of VicHealth has begun its City Strikers program, bringing our walking football initiative across Melbourne.

Walking football is a modified version of the game which is growing in popularity across the world. It aims to encourage older members of our community and those with restricted mobility to be more active and use the sport to socialise. In essence it is football with no running.

This program will also importantly target people from diverse cultural backgrounds with no age or gender restriction and the program also suits people with disabilities or mobility issues.

On Monday 7 December, Melbourne City FC ran its first ever session of walking football with the support of the City Of Yarra including a number of people accessing the council’s Senior Citizens Hub and Willow Centre. It was inspiring to see so many actively participate and enjoy the game.

The program will run from there every Monday from 10:30am. Programs across Melbourne will be established in the new year and the Club is seeking interested agencies and individuals who want to help us run the program or participate.
