Melbourne City FC is delighted to announce the signing of American attacker Ally Watt for the remainder of the Westfield W-League 2019/20 season.

The 22-year-old joins the Club after being selected by back-to-back National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) champions North Carolina Courage with their first pick of the 2020 NWSL College Draft.

Watt arrives in Melbourne following a dominant season with Texas A&M. The attacker will bring great versatility to Head Coach Rado Vidosic’s front third, as she looks to utilise her pace and finishing ability.

Speaking on Watt’s signing, Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo said: “Ally brings great pace and goal scoring prowess to our attacking third.”

“We’re extremely pleased to welcome her for the remainder of the season as we look to secure silverware. Rado and his team have done an exceptional job in the first 10 rounds of the season and now as a Club, we’re determined to transform that into success as the remaining fixtures of the season and finals quickly approach us.

“Ally’s inclusion is a massive boost to our attacking stocks and to our depth as we head into this crucial stage.”

Ally Watt said: “I’m extremely excited to get started at Melbourne City FC.”

“The team has had a really strong start to the season and I’m looking forward to doing everything I can to play my role and have an influence in the second half of the season.

“I’m a footballer that loves to use my pace, get in behind the opposition’s defence and find the scoresheet.”

The attacker became the highest ever draft pick from Texas A&M when she was selected with Pick 6 by NC Courage in last week’s NWSL College Draft. During her college career with the Aggies, Watt made 90 appearances, scoring 49 goals and registering 12 assists. Of her 49 goals with the Aggies, she scored 19 match-winners.

In 2016, Watt represented the U.S. Women’s National Team at the FIFA U20 World Cup where she netted two goals. The speedster has made 14 appearances for the U20 squad scoring seven goals in that time.

Watt has commenced training with the squad and will be available for selection when City return to action in Round 12 on Thursday 13 February, as the team looks to continue their unbeaten start to the season when they take on Melbourne Victory at Lakeside Stadium.
