Melbourne City FC is pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Jason Trifiro ahead of the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 Season.

Trifiro joins Melbourne City FC on a one year deal and is the Club’s tenth signing during the pre-season, following the addition of Ivan Franjic, Steve Kuzmanovski, Corey Gameiro, Harry Novillo, Aaron Hughes, Michael Zullo, Wade Dekker, Bruno Fornaroli and Thomas Sorensen.

The 27-year-old has spent periods of the pre-season training with the Club, turning in an impressive performance in the Club’s friendly clash against Manchester City at Cbus Stadium on the Gold Coast in July.

Born in Western Sydney, Trifiro began his career playing for National Premier Leagues NSW clubs Marconi Stallions, APIA Leichhardt and South Coast Wolves, before heading to Victoria in 2011 to play alongside his brother Glen – who plays for the Central Coast Mariners – at Northcote City and South Melbourne.

Rewarded for his persistence, Trifiro eventually broke through to the Hyundai A-League, making 37 appearances in a three-year spell with the Western Sydney Wanderers after signing as one of Club’s inaugural players in 2012.

A midfielder with sound technical ability on the ball, Melbourne City FC coach John van’t Schip believes that Trifiro will provide extra competition for places in the middle of the park.

“Jason was impressive against Manchester City in the Gold Coast and has trained well with us during pre-season,” van’t Schip said.

“We’ve seen him perform for Western Sydney in the A-League and Asian Champions League and he will bring added depth to our midfield this season.”

Trifiro will wear the number 16 jersey.
