Melbourne City FC plays its first pre-season match on Wednesday night against National Premier Leagues Victoria (NPLV) side Ballarat Red Devils.
After three weeks of pre-season training, Head Coach John van’t Schip hopes tonight’s match will give him an indication of where his team is at both physically and technically.
“It-s going to be the first real hit-out for the boys,” van’t Schip told the Ballarat Courier today.
“What we-re looking for is conditional. We want to see how well the players are gelling with each other and how well they are performing in different positions.
“We-ll switch around a little bit and it-s a good time to have a look at the youth team that we-ll be using in the coming months.
“We expect that we-re going to play against an opponent that-s very fit, and we-ll probably have one team playing each half.”
James Brown, Connor Chapman, Aaron Mooy and Jacob Melling could make their first appearances for Melbourne City on Wednesday evening.
Ballarat player-coach James Robinson is expected to field a full-strength side for the home club.
