Melbourne City re-signs Atkinson, Berenguer and Griffiths

Melbourne City FC can announce the re-signing of Nathaniel Atkinson, Florin Berenguer and Rostyn Griffiths ahead of the 2020/21 A-League season. 

The trio – who were part of City’s march towards the 2019/20 Grand Final – have committed for the upcoming season, each playing an influential role during the 2019/20 campaign. 

Atkinson has signed on until the end of 2021/22, with the 21-year-old remaining at City. 

The full-back has made 57 appearances since signing his first professional contract with the Club in 2017 and has impressed, playing a crucial role in City’s 2019/20 Finals run. 

Berenguer has extended his contract until the end of 2020/21 which will be the Frenchman’s third season at the Club. 

The 31-year-old has made 37 appearances for City, scoring three times during the 2019/20 campaign and has been a pivotal player in the Club’s midfield engine room. 

Griffiths will also make the 2020/21 season his third at the Club, re-signing for two more years. 

The 32-year-old has brought versatility and leadership to City’s midfield and defence, making 44 appearances during his time in Melbourne and scoring three goals. 

Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo said: 

“We’re pleased to have Nathaniel, Florin and Rostyn back at the Club next season as we continue to build a strong, stable squad that can win silverware,” Petrillo said. 

“Nathaniel has been a part of our youth development pathway and senior squad for five years and we’re excited for him to remain with the Club as he continues to progress as a professional footballer. 

 “Florin and Rostyn showed last season that they are an important part of our team on and off the field and we’re looking forward to having their experience as part of our squad as we look to go one better in 2020/21.”
