The third AXF Cup Chinese New Year Charity Tournament was held on Sunday at Veneto Club, Bulleen, with Melbourne Heart FC supporting the competition through its connection with the Melbourne Chinese Soccer Association.

The competition expanded to six teams this year, while there was also the inclusion of a ‘friendly- match between a Melbourne Heart FC representative women-s team and the Victoria Police women-s side.

Melbourne Heart FC General Manager, Community, Sue Crow praised the event.

“The participating teams played in the true spirit of football and we would like to thank the Veneto Club for their support of the AXF Cup,” Crow said.

“As usual, the Chinese Dragon and Lion dancers and the drummers entertained the crowd and there was a great display of football and sportsmanship.”

The Heidelberg Stars (pictured above) defeated the MCSA All Stars in an entertaining Grand Final to secure the 2014 AXF Cup, while the Victoria Police women-s team proved too strong for Melbourne Heart FC’s women’s rep team.

Melbourne Heart were represented in the tournament by Unite FC, a team from the Australian Somali Football Association – which won the AXF Cup last year – and a team consisting of Big Issue Street Soccer players.
