Melbourne Heart FC striker Michael Mifsud believes that his team needs to focus on a strong first half performance in their upcoming derby match against Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park on Saturday night.

Speaking at the Heart-s training session at Epping today, Mifsud said that he was looking forward to his first Melbourne Derby and is hoping that his team can build on its performances by making an impact on the scoreboard on Saturday.

“In the games coming I think we need to start from the first whistle not just in the second half to play good football like we do, [and] hopefully we can work on that and we will have good games coming up,” Mifsud said.

“We have shown that we are a good side, we have played away from home and out-played teams, we just haven-t got the [right] result but everybody can see that we are playing good football and creating chances; we are just waiting for a result.”

The Maltese striker said that while he was happy to finally hit the target with his first goal on the weekend and relieve any pressure on himself, he is more focused on the team-s interests then personal goals.

“Personally I-m happy I got the goal but it-s not about me; it-s about the team and about the Club”, he said.

“Every player passes through some hard times, I was still doing my job; I was still creating and trying my best so I was focused on that, of course I was unlucky not hitting the target but last game I managed to hit it so that-s over with.”

The 32-year-old said that his teammates are now focusing on putting in their best efforts against Melbourne Victory on Saturday night.

“It-s a great stage to turn things around, like I said before, of course it is an important game like any other game but it-s a bit extra important because it-s a derby,” he said.

“They are a strong side but it-s another game, a game is 90 minutes and we will take our chances on the game.

“They are a good side and they have good players but that-s what is nice about this league, that everybody can beat everybody.”
