Mifsud set for debut, Kewell to miss trip west

Maltese striker Michael Mifsud is in line to debut for the Red and White in Melbourne Heart FC’s clash with Perth Glory on Sunday, while Harry Kewell will remain sidelined.

Maltese striker Michael Mifsud is in line to debut for the Red and White in Melbourne Heart FC’s Round Three clash with Perth Glory on Sunday, while Harry Kewell will remain sidelined.

Mifsud returns after featuring for Malta in two World Cup Qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Denmark.

Mifsud marked his 100th appearance against the Czech Republic with a goal – his 38th international goal for his country – and returns ready to make an immediate impact in the Hyundai A-League.

Club captain Kewell remains sidelined after suffering a nasty knock against Melbourne Victory in Round One, in which he suffered whiplash, and will not travel to Perth for the match.

Man-of-the-match against the Central Coast Mariners, David Williams, may continue in the number 10 role made vacant by the absent Kewell, after impressing with two goals in Round Two.

Mifsud will vie with Williams, Golgol Mebrahtu, Mate Dugandzic and Iain Ramsay for a place in Melbourne Heart’s front four.

Perth will have Ryo Nagai and Michael Thwaite back from injury, while Shane Smeltz (hip), Travis Dodd (knee), Isaka Cernak (hip) and Josh Risdon are on the injured list for the home side.

Glory may be bouyed by the signing of former Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur defender William Gallas this week; however, the Frenchman will not be available for Sunday’s game.
