Melbourne Heart FC-s new signing – Maltese captain Michael Mifsud – featured in his first hit out with the Red and White yesterday.

Mifsud, who was unveiled on Wednesday as the team-s latest recruit and 23rd squad member for the Hyundai A-League 2013-14 season, played 90 minutes in an intra-club match at Epping Stadium on Friday afternoon.

The match, which finished 1-1, was played behind closed doors and Mifsud said he was pleased with how he felt in trying conditions, which included torrential rain at Epping Stadium.

“I enjoyed it, it was a good game, good session – the weather was good as well,” Mifsud said.

“These are practice games – this is where you become a better player… but I enjoyed it, it was good.”

It was the first time Mifsud had played alongside his new teammates in a match scenario, including captain Harry Kewell.

“He-s a very clever player, he can play me in, but all the lads are good,” Mifsud said.

Mifsud, who has recently played for his national side, Malta, said he felt in good shape but would not rest on his laurels and would push to fine tune his fitness before the season commences.

“It felt good, but I need to work a bit more; I-ve been playing and training but I still need to work on my fitness, I-ve got these two-three weeks to work on it so I have plenty of time,” Mifsud said.

Mifsud said that he was overwhelmed by the welcome he had received at the Red and White.

“[The Club] is great; the team, the lads, it-s been fantastic,” Mifsud said.

“It-s like I-ve been here for ages, they-ve made me feel so welcome, and it-s amazing – I would just like to thank them.”
