NPL Preview: City v North Geelong Warriors

Thumbnail

Melbourne City FC will hosts its first home match of the NPL2 West competition on Saturday as we take on North Geelong Warriors at the CFA’s Academy Pitches at La Trobe University.

City remain undefeated in the league after being pegged back by a late goal last week against Whittlesea Ranges. Chris Cristaldo’s follow up from a saved penalty gave City the lead however former Perth Glory defender Naum Sekulovski evened up the ledger to share the spoils.

North Geelong will prove to be yet another test for Joe Palatsides’ side, sitting on the same points as City at the top of the ladder. Recently relegated from the top tier of Victorian football, the Warriors have retained much of their side that finished third last in 2015 and will look for promotion this season.

Sitting on one draw and one win, North Geelong picked up their first three point haul of the season last week as they defeated fellow 2015 relegated side Werribee City 2-0 at home. Goals to Michael Thorne and Michael Anderson secured the result for Micky Colina’s side as they head to CFA Melbourne looking for another win. The Warriors are known for their physical brand of football and will more than likely bring that to this weekend’s contest.

Gareth Richards and Michael Townley will be the biggest goal-scoring threats for North Geelong on Saturday with the latter finding the back of the net in Round 1. The duo were tied top scorers for the club last season and will look to continue that trend against our young City side.

Entry is free for the match.
