NPL Preview: City v Whittlesea Ranges

Thumbnail

It’s the top of the table clash we have been waiting for as our NPL side take on league leaders Whittlesea Ranges on Saturday afternoon at the CFA Academy Pitches.

It was another win for City last week as they defeated a stubborn Springvale White Eagles outfit 2-0. Goals to Stefan Zinni and Chris Christaldo allowed City to keep pace with this week’s opponents, making Saturday’s clash one of the most important fixtures in NPL2 this season.

The Ranges come into the clash with their tails up after defeating NPL2 East high-flyers and potential promotion playoff opponents Kingston City. The match at The Grange Reserve saw Whittlesea stamp their authority on the automatic promotion position as an Atilla Ofli hat-trick saw off Kingston.

Ofli has been NPL2’s revelation this season, leading the Golden Boot race and attracting the attention of plenty of top tier NPL clubs. The striker’s rich vein of form has seen him net and incredible 27 times for the Ranges this season, arguably leading his side to a promotion position.

After a hat-trick last week and a five goal haul against Eastern Lions earlier in the season, the striker is the man to watch for Joe Palatsides’ side this weekend.
