NPL Preview: City v Whittlesea Ranges

Thumbnail

Melbourne City FC will look for back-to-back wins this Saturday as they take on Whittlesea Ranges at Epping Stadium.

City were only one of two sides to pick up three points in NPL2 West on the weekend, accounting for Bendigo City 4-0 last Saturday night.

Goals to Phil Petreski, Stefan Zinni, Jordan Hall and Giuseppe Marafiotti secured a convincing away win at Epsom Huntly Reserve as City sit at the top of the conference after the first round.

Whittlesea on the other hand will be a different test for Joe Palatsides’ chargers after coming off an entertaining 3-3 draw with Werribee City in Round 1 where they found a last minute equaliser away from home.

The Ranges have made the biggest signings in their NPL history this season, adding former Perth Glory player Naum Sekulovski and Papua New Guinea international Geroge Slefendorfas to their squad as they look to improve from last season’s result.

The man to watch for Whittlesea this week is Round 1’s hattrick hero Atilla Ofli. Ofli joined the club season after trials with Western Sydney and South Melbourne and got off to the perfect start in NPL2 with his opening day heroics.

City’s first NPL2 home match is against North Geelong Warriors on Saturday 5 March at the City Football Academy Pitches, Lower Playing Fields, La Trobe University. Under 20’s 1pm, Seniors 3pm.
