The Clash

Melbourne City FC will be back in action for its final match in India as it takes on La Liga outfit Girona FC on Friday night.

City will be buoyed by the impressive 6-0 result against Kerala Blasters on Tuesday night as Riley McGree headlined the performance, scoring a brace in the rout of the Indian Super League side.

Warren Joyce’s entire compliment was tested in Kochi for the first match but with a stern opponent up next for City, the match will prove to be a true test ahead of their first competitive match in the FFA Cup on Tuesday 7 August against Brisbane Roar.

Girona’s pedigree speaks for itself, finishing the 2017/18 La Liga season in 10th, picking up points against the likes of Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. The Blanquivermell are well into their pre-season, touching down in India on Wednesday after a week-long camp at CFA Manchester where their latest result was a 1-0 loss to Oldham Athletic.

Friday night will be yet another clash of footballing cultures as both sides meet in the middle in Melbourne City’s third cross-City Football Group clash in what is set to be an intriguing contest.

Team News

Warren Joyce’s side came out unscathed from Tuesday night’s contest as the playing group looks to get more minutes under the belt this pre-season.

“There is a long way to go before our season. These are build up games and we want to obviously win every game that we play but both games (in India) are in preparation for the FFA Cup game and we’ll assess on Thursday where everyone is at and decide the team for Girona.”
