Preston Lions benefit from 3-3 draw

As the selected Hyundai Goals for Grassroots junior team Preston Lions Football Club automatically received $1,000, and for every goal Melbourne Heart scored during the match the club received an additional $1,000 bonus.

As the selected Hyundai Goals for Grassroots junior team Preston Lions Football Club automatically received $1,000, and for every goal Melbourne Heart scored during the match the club received an additional $1,000 bonus.

As a result of the game-s 3-3 final score, the Lions were awarded a $4000 donation from Hyundai.

The junior grassroots club also received 20 x complimentary tickets to attend the match, an on-field official cheque presentation, and the filming of a professional one-minute video to help promote their club.

“Our junior football program has set up an initiative to offer subsidised registration fees for children from disadvantaged backgrounds,” said Preston Lions FC representative, Chris Terpos.

“Through collaboration with Darebin Council and other contributors, we have been able to offer either fully or partly subsidised fees and the Hyundai ‘Goals For Grassroots- donation will allow us to continue with this important initiative for the upcoming season.”

The Hyundai Goals for Grassroots programme was initiated by to support the growth of football in Australia by nurturing the game at its grassroots level. The programme has been running for five years, and to date Hyundai has donated over $400,000 to more than 150 junior clubs right cross Australia.

“The players get enormous pleasure seeing the local football players at our matches passionately cheering us on,” said Melbourne Heart FC midfielder Massimo Murdocca.

“The future, and the heart-and-soul of the game lies here with the kids, and we are delighted to be able to play a part in encouraging and nurturing the community teams who will produce our future football stars.”

Local and community based clubs can apply for selection in the programme by completing an on-line application indicating why their club should receive support from Hyundai Goals for Grassroots. All junior clubs who apply for the Hyundai Goals for Grassroots program will automatically be entered in the end of season prize draw to win their club a brand-new Hyundai i30.

“Getting behind our local football teams is just one of the ways we share the passion of the great game within the community, and Hyundai Goals for Grassroots allows us to assist to promote the game even further.” Mr Ahmet Ahmed representing Makin & Luby, the local Hyundai dealership, attended the match and Preston Lions FC cheque presentation.

Applications can be completed at www.goalsforgrassroots.com.au. To be eligible, clubs must belong to an association affiliated with the Football Federation Australia (FFA). Preston Lions Football Club fans were out to cheer on their local team at AAMI Park on the weekend in Hyundai A-League round 8, the designated Hyundai Goals for Grassroots match. With up to $10,000* on the line, the Preston Lions FC was cheering on Melbourne Heart as they took on cross border rivals Adelaide United.
