PREVIEW: Melbourne City FC vs Adelaide United

Melbourne City FC face Adelaide United on Friday night in an important Round 4 fixture of the Hyundai A-League

The Lowdown

Melbourne City FC will be looking to bounce back from a 5-2 loss to close rival Melbourne Victory when John van’t Schip’s side faces Adelaide United on Friday night. After a first half where van’t Schip’s side was unlucky to enter the break level and was unable to sustain its first half form, being overrun by the Victory in the second half.

van’t Schip said he has addressed the key areas of concern during the week and is confident his side will be able to pick up its first three points of the season. After reflecting on the opening three rounds, van’t Schip believed his side were dominant in five of the six halves so far and will look to continue that trend on Friday – but will look to maintain dominance across 90 minutes.

Adelaide United are unbeaten this season, picking up seven points from a possible nine. Josep Gombau and his Spanish revolution is in its second year and the Head Coach has the Reds playing an attractive brand of football.

Sergio Cirio is Adelaide United’s in-form man at the moment, scoring in the last two matches against Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory. The chemistry between the Reds’ Latin contingent has seen the group become one of the Hyundai A-League’smost threatening combinations, with Cirio joined by Isaias, Sergio Cirio, Marcelo Carrusca and Fabio Ferreira.
