Melbourne City FC faces Oldham Athletic in the Club’s second pre-season hit-out in the UK at SportsDirect.com Park on Saturday afternoon.

The match, which kicks off at 3pm (BST), comes after Melbourne City FC drew 2-2 with League Two side Bury in a behind-closed-doors but this encounter.

Oldham are likely to provide a stern test for John van’t Schip’s side with the League One outfit unbeaten in four pre-season matches – including a win over English Premier League outfit Newcastle United on Tuesday.

The Latics defeated Newcastle through second-half goals from Timothee Dieng and trialist William Gros to seal a 2-1 win.

James Brown and triallist James Poole were on the scoresheet against Bury in Melbourne City FC’s behind-closed-doors match at Manchester City’s Carrington Training Centre on Tuesday.

Van’t Schip is expected to experiment with his personnel – including a number of traillists – during Saturday afternoon’s match.

Damien Duff, who played the second half against Bury, could play a part in Saturday’s match.

Oldham manager Lee Johnson said on the Latic’s official website that Melbourne City would present an interesting challenge for his side.

“It’s a funny one because I’m not sure of their level,” Johnson said. “I think it’s around League One/Championship but I’m not sure.

“It’s a bit of the unknown and that’s good because it means that people have to adjust and have to think on there feet.”
