PREVIEW: van’t Schip has plenty of attacking options

Melbourne City FC Head Coach John van’t Schip said his side has enough firepower in its ranks to trouble Melbourne Victory during the Melbourne Derby.

Asked about his side being reliant on Spanish talisman David Villa, van’t Schip had a simple response.

“We played last year without David Villa and we scored goals,” van’t Schip said.

“We have David Williams still with us, we have James Brown… so there are enough players that are there that can stand up and score goals.”

The Dutchman has relished the opportunity to have David Villa at the Club, saying the World Cup winner has enjoyed his time in Australia.

“He [Villa] is unbelievable with the ball, he’s enjoying himself, he’s happy and that’s still the case,” van’t Schip said.

“I’m really focused on the game, the boys know the situation and know internally so there are no surprises.”

With Melbourne City FC still yet to fill its Australian marquee and final Visa spot, van’t Schip will look towards the January transfer window to find the perfect fit for the role.

“We still have a spot left for the Australian marquee so we’ll look around and look for someone who can try and score goals,” van’t Schip said.

“It doesn’t have to be [a forward] but it needs to compliment what we need and what we’re looking for.”
