Melbourne Heart FC Captain Simon Colosimo discusses the side’s match against Brisbane Roar and the challenge of securing a finals berth.

What are your thoughts on Saturday night-s game against Brisbane Roar?

I thought we played quite well and created a lot of chances. We went down 1-0 early which is probably the reason we are in the position we-re in: we need to win and hope. We-ve probably done that a few too many times this year and it-s caught up with us, but that-s to take nothing away from our hard we worked and that most probably, we deserved to get something out of the game.

Do you feel the side could have potentially come away from the match with at least a point?

Yeah, we-ve played a few games like that and the game on the Gold Coast against Brisbane was just like that, but we don-t make it easy for ourselves by going a goal down and then chasing it. But the boys showed great character and great resolve to put that behind us and have a really good go at it.

The team has played some fantastic football this season, but hasn-t necessarily garnered the results its performances deserve. How would you judge the season so far?

I think it-s been very good. There-s only a small percentage that we need to change and we will be much better for it. I still believe that the season is over for us. I think it-s vitally important that we pick up the three points this weekend and go into the last weekend (with a chance to make the finals).

Looking at the finals, does the team worry about external results or just focus on what it can control?

We-re holding onto our pride that we want to pick up maximum points at home. What happens outside that has never been in our control before that, and still isn-t in our control. We-ll try and do our best, and if it nudges us in, then it nudges us in. If it doesn-t, it-s one of those things we miss out on.
