Mebourne City FC Head Coach John van’t Schip says his side is ready to take its first three points of the season this Friday night as it takes on Adelaide United at AAMI Park.

After a disappointing Derby defeat to Melbourne Victory, van’t Schip was adamant his side will continue to play the way they have been playing over the opening rounds.

“If we look at the three games that we’ve played and divide it into six halves, I think we played five good halves,” van’t Schip said.

“We all know we have to bounce back after the derby and I expressed already that the way we play is not the problem, but we have to show character.

“Playing good football is not just about playing the ball and having nice moves but its also being determined, knowing what’s needed to get results and to win games.”

His side will come up against an in-form Adelaide United on Friday night and van’t Schip.

“Joesp has put a team on the pitch that [over] a years time, you really see they’ve made progress,” van’t Schip said.

“If you remember, their start was also difficult. They were playing good football. If you look at our situation you can compare it a little bit [to us] where they were playing good football but not getting the results.

“They [maintained] their beliefs and sticking to the way they play and you see that now the results are coming out of that philosophy and that’s good to see.”

Although van’t Schip will be missing Connor Champman — who experienced another setback in Melbourne City FC’s Foxtel National Youth League 4-1 win against the Western Sydney Wanderers — David Williams, Ben Garuccio and Jonatan Germano are all in the equation for Friday night.

“[Germano] played for the youth league [on Sunday], has trained for a few weeks and that’s why he is in the squad,” van’t Schip said

“We have to see a few thing but he is for sure a player that could be part of the game. When he’s fit, we have to work out how we can use him.”

Melbourne City FC takes on Adelaide United this Friday night at AAMI Park. Kick-off at 7:40pm with gates opening at 6:30pm. Speed up your entry to the stadium by buying your tickets online through Ticketek or purchase at the gate.
