Redmayne seeks further improvement

Melbourne Heart FC goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne says the Red and White are intent on continued improvement ahead of this season’s third instalment of the Melbourne Derby this Saturday night.

Melbourne Heart FC goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne says the Red and White are intent on continued improvement ahead of this season-s third instalment of the Melbourne Derby this Saturday night.

Melbourne has collected wins - and two clean sheets - against Wellington Phoenix away and against league leaders Brisbane Roar at AAMI Park on Sunday, but Redmayne said that despite the team-s current form, the side still needs to approach each game with caution.

“The team as a whole is really doing well off the confidence we have had the last few weeks,” Redmayne said.

“[But] we-re still going to take it one game at a time and just see where that takes us.

“It-s nice to be winning but it-s a big reality check when you look at the table and you-re still last.

“So there is still a long way to go, but there are positive things on the horizon.”

Marquee Orlando Engelaar's second goal for the Club was the eventual decider in a close contest against the Roar, but it was Patrick Kisnorbo's late, game-saving tackle that prevented Brisbane Roar from snatching a late equaliser.

Redmayne believes the combination of an improved attack and solid defence has helped with the side's resurgence.

“It is nice the boys are scoring but having said that we have been more solid defensively," Redmayne said.

“I just think it-s a confidence thing; the boys are more confident to press forward and defend forward and really take on the game."

With Aziz Behich and Patrick Gerhardt set to miss Saturday-s Derby through suspension, Redmayne believes the squad's depth can cover for those absentees.

“The depth in our squad is fantastic; the younger boys coming through, but also older boys that have been waiting in the wings,” Redmayne said.

“I think we have more than enough cover to fill the places this weekend.

“It is very pleasing but having said that there is still a lot of things that we can do better.

“There is still a lot more improvement left in this club.

“We just want to keep on improving and we will see where that takes us.”
