2011/12 proved to be yet another fantastic season for Michael Marrone, earning a senior Socceroos call up, as well as featuring in the PFA’s A-League Team of the Year.

Having received interest from abroad over the last off-season, Marrone entered the campaign with his confidence buoyed, and he would become one of the key cog-s in John van-t Schipt-s versatile and mobile unit, playing both as a full back and even in the middle of the park when the situation demanded it.

His tireless running and quality defending rightly earned him a call up to the senior Socceroo set-up by national team coach Holger Osieck, as well as being named the competition-s best right-full back as demonstrated by his selection in the 2011/12 Team of the Year.

Highs:
– Named in the A-League Team of the Year.
– Earned a call up to the senior Socceroos set up.
– Started 28 games, making him the player with the most senior appearances for Melbourne Heart at this point in time, with one more than Clint Bolton.

Lows:
– Despite his marauding runs forward, Marrone still does not have an A-League goal to his name.

In a word: Consistent.
