The 18-man squad includes Spaniard David Villa who will travel to Sydney with the squad.
Villa completed his first session on Monday and trained strongly with the squad this week, putting his hand up for selection this Saturday night against Sydney. Patrick Kisnorbo will lead the side out at Allianz Stadium with the centre-back anointed the Club’s captain last Saturday. But Melbourne City FC will be without Jason Hoffman, who will serve a one-match suspension carried over from last season, while Stefan Mauk will miss the opening round clash through Young Socceroo duties.
Connor Chapman, Ben Garuccio and Jonatan Germano remain sidelined with injuries, but new signings Damien Duff, Aaron Mooy and Erik Paartalu have all trained with the squad and provide strength in midfield.
