Steph Catley announced as Leagues Fan Ambassador

Football Federation Australia (FFA) today announced that Westfield Matildas vice-captain and Melbourne City FC captain Steph Catley has been named one of two inaugural Leagues Fan Ambassadors alongside Former Socceroo, Alex Brosque.

FFA Head of Leagues, Greg O’Rourke, welcomed Steph and Alex to their new roles which will focus on supporting a key priority of connecting grassroots participants with the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League.

“A core component of our Leagues strategy is to introduce and connect participants as fans, and we are really thrilled to have Alex and Steph on board, as the figureheads to advocate for the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League,” said O’Rourke.

“The purpose of this program is to increase engagement and awareness across the Leagues target audience of the participants who play our game and families.

“We hope the Leagues Ambassadors will help to further link the professional league to grassroots community Clubs, and highlight the special match day experiences provided to participants and their families,” concluded O’Rourke.

With 79 appearances for the Westfield Matildas and four (4) Westfield W-League Championships to her name, Steph Catley is well-placed to spruik the qualities of the Westfield W-League.

“I am excited to be the new Fan Ambassador for the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League. I began my Westfield W-League season in 2009 and this is my eleventh campaign so far. During that time I have not only developed as a player, I have been fortunate to play with and against some of the best female footballers in the world,” said Catley.

“The Westfield W-League is also the perfect place for our young and upcoming Matildas to develop their game and from what we have seen this season, the future of Women’s Football in Australia is looking good.

“Because of the quality of players across the Leagues, this is the ideal competition for junior participants to watch some of the best players week in week out,” concluded Catley.

With rebel Play Football Round concluding over the weekend, over 350,000 registered junior participants will have access to attend the Hyundai A-League and/or the Westfield W-League by redeeming a Club Junior Membership.

These Junior Participant Memberships introduce and connect participants with their favourite team, and give access to watch their heroes live in action.
