Melbourne City FC can announce it has re-signed goalkeeper Tando Velaphi on a two-year deal ahead of the 2015/16 Hyundai A-League season.

Velaphi, 28, impressed City fans last season, securing an A-League high 9 clean sheets (from 19 appearances), after stepping into the number one position during the season and making an important contribution to the team reaching the semi-finals.

City Head Coach John van’t Schip said Velaphi has been a great professional both on and off the pitch for the Club.

“Tando was a vital contributor for us last season and his record was a reflection of his hard work and positive attitude,” van’t Schip said.

“He is a quality player and a great character around the group and we are glad to have him with us heading into next season and beyond.”

Velaphi said he was excited to have signed on in the early stages of pre-season and was looking to improve on last season’s campaign.

“It’s great to have signed on for another couple of seasons at the Club,” Velaphi said.

“It’s a great feeling to be back in pre-season with all the boys and we’re working hard to build on what we were able to achieve last season.

“I’ll be doing everything I can to get the best out of myself and help the team to be successful this season.”
