Stand-in Captain Matt Thompson has backed Melbourne Heart FC-s attacking line to make an impact in Saturday-s Melbourne Derby.

While Heart is yet to register its first win this season, the Red and White-s attacking verve and creativity has undoubtedly been a highlight, evidence of the off-season shake up orchestrated by Head Coach John van ‘t Schip.

With Mate Dugandzic and David Williams finding the scoresheet in the opening matches of the season, the duo are on form and ready to leave their mark on the biggest occasion of the Hyundai A-League season.

Thompson feels the combined strike power in the Heart attacking third will be enough to break the Derby deadlock and record the Club-s second triumph over the blue half of Melbourne.

“If we can hold their front four and be strong at the back, we’d back ourselves against their back-four,” he told AAP.

The four-time Socceroo acknowledges the threat of Harry Kewell, who has shown glimpses of his best during the first two rounds of the season.

However, the former Newcastle Jet believes the team has the game plan and personnel to make life difficult for the former Liverpool star.

“Harry’s a fantastic player, but Harry’s human. If we do our job right, there’s no reason we can’t make it hard for him – and that’s the idea.

“There’s no doubt he’s a fantastic player but we’d like to think we’ve got some fantastic players in our line-up that they’ve got to worry about.”
