Three City stars selected in Socceroos squad for upcoming World Cup Qualifiers

Football Australia has today announced the Socceroos squad for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers in June, with three Melbourne City FC players included.

Prolific striker Jamie Maclaren is joined by defender Curtis Good and 21-year-old midfielder Connor Metcalfe in the 31-man squad.

Good, one of the A-League’s best defenders, has been rewarded for his dominant form and will make his return to the national team set-up for the first time since 2014.

The selection of the record-breaking Maclaren won’t be a surprise to anyone, the striker having already netted 25 goals and assisted a further five.

Metcalfe earns his first Socceroos call up thanks to his breakout 2020/21 A-League season where he has started every game for City, scoring five times and assisting three more.

Unfortunately, the star trio will be absent for the A-League Finals, departing for Kuwait after our home fixture this Saturday against Newcastle.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo said:

Whilst we are obviously disappointed that these players will miss our Finals campaign, we are still very proud of their selection in the upcoming Socceroo squad for the World Cup qualifying matches.

Curtis, Jamie and Connor have all had great seasons and fully deserve their call-ups. We wish them and the Socceroos every success in the matches ahead and hope that qualification for the World Cup can be achieved.

We wish Jamie, Connor and Curtis all the best on Socceroos duty and are sure they will do us proud!
