Melbourne Heart FC Chief Executive Officer Scott Munn has urged the Gippsland football community to turn out in force when the club faces Wellington Phoenix at Latrobe City Stadium on December 4.

With the match-up set to be the first time the Hyundai A-League has ventured into regional Victoria for a competitive fixture, Munn is hopeful of a strong showing at the former home of the Gippsland Falcons.

Having staged two practice matches at the venue over the last 18 months, Munn said the club regards the venue as its ‘home away from home-, and expects the stadium to be transformed into a sea of red and white.

And with tickets to the fixture on sale from Monday, football fans are urged to secure their seats early with the match expected to be a sell out.

“Melbourne Heart FC is proud of its connection to the regional community and the Latrobe Valley region in particular,” Munn said.

“We are proud of the role we have played in orchestrating the return of elite competition football to Gippsland for the first time in nearly 10 years, in conjunction with the Latrobe City Council, our tremendous partners in this event.

“The December 4 match will enable us to pay tribute to Gippsland-s significant contribution to the Australian football landscape, and hopefully revive memories of years past.”

Gippsland is one of five regional areas nationwide selected to stage a Hyundai A-League community round match, joining Campbelltown, Bathurst, Launceston and Dunedin.
