The power of social media came to the fore yesterday as Albury rising star Harry Quealy earned the chance to feature in Melbourne Heart FC-s squad for its friendly hit out against the AWFA XI at La Trobe University in Wodonga.

Having been named in the squad for the AWFA XI, Quealy received the call up to the Heart bench after the Club was informed of his prowess by a friend on Twitter.

With Player of the Year Clint Bolton unavailable for selection, Quealy is set to be the reserve shot stopper behind triallist Ben McNamara, and may potentially be called upon during the dying embers of the contest.

Chief Executive Officer Scott Munn said the Club received recommendations from coaches within the Albury Wodonga region attesting to Quealy-s ability, and is delighted Heart will be able to make a young ‘keeper-s dream a reality.

“I got a tweet from a local boy who said there was a local footballer who-s been training but wasn-t named in the starting eleven for the rep side, and asked if he could come and have a run,” he said.

“As luck has it, we only have one ‘keeper coming up because Clint Bolton is injured. I send a note and said ‘call us-.

“We-ve spoken to a couple of local people and we know he-s reasonably good. No doubt at some point he will represent Melbourne Heart.”
