Two Strong Hearts Join Forces

The Heart Foundation (Victoria) and Melbourne Heart Football Club will kick-off the 2010 Doorknock Appeal with the announcement that they are entering a partnership to help raise heart health awareness in the community.

The Heart Foundation (Victoria) and Melbourne Heart Football Club will kick-off the 2010 Doorknock Appeal with the announcement that they are entering a partnership to help raise heart health awareness in the community.

The Partnership

The partnership means that Melbourne Heart players will act as Heart Foundation ambassadors in a combined effort to engage the community in opportunities for healthy living, and help to reduce the number of Victorians who die from cardiovascular disease every year.

Kathy Bell, Chief Executive Officer of the Heart Foundation (Victoria), said the Heart Foundation was delighted to be working with Melbourne Heart, as both organisations are committed to working within the community and promoting health messages relevant to all Victorians.

“Cardiovascular disease is the biggest killer of Australians, claiming a life every ten minutes. It-s important to let people know the risk factors, and how they can improve their heart health. The energy and enthusiasm of the Melbourne Heart team and their supporters will provide great opportunities to get our important health messages to more people, and we hope they will take our messages to heart,” said Kathy Bell.

Melbourne Heart Chief Executive, Scott Munn, said the club was proud to be associated with the Heart Foundation.

“As a club, we are committed to utilizing our resources and presence as a force for good in the community, advocating the importance of tolerance, respect, community spirit, charity and a healthy lifestyle for the Victorian public,” he said.

”Through our partnership with the Heart Foundation, we will be able to further achieve these key ambitions by helping spread the message of cardiovascular health.”

Doorknock Appeal

The Doorknock Appeal is the Heart Foundation-s largest annual fundraising campaign.

Money raised by the 2010 Doorknock Appeal will help the Heart Foundation to continue to fund critical research and community projects to improve awareness, prevention and treatment of heart disease and stroke. The Doorknock Appeal runs Saturday 4-Sunday 19 September in Victoria.
