Melbourne Heart FC Head Coach John van ‘t Schip has called on his side to perform with greater consistency as he looks ahead to the challenge of league leading Brisbane Roar on Friday night.

While the Red and White managed to secure all three points in Morwell, van ‘t Schip was disappointed by his side-s display, urging his charges to play with greater impetus.

“It wasn’t our best performance and we know that,” he said.

“We want to keep the ball for longer, play with more possession. That’s something that we’re talking about working on a lot.”

“And that’s something that we have to improve on because the games are going too up and down. We have to have the ball more, control the possession more.”

With three wins from the last four matches, Heart is without question one of the form teams in the competition, having collected 10 points from the last five matches.

Boasting match winners throughout a talent laden front third, van ‘t Schip is acutely aware of the potential which lies within his side.

But if Heart is to fulfil its promise, van ‘t Schip is looking for greater composure in defensive transition.
“We know that we have quick players up front who can decide a game in a split second. But we also want to play more controlled from the back, on the midfield,” he said.

“That’s something that didn’t work out so good, but I think in the discipline we did well – we worked well defensively, and I think at the end the three points were very important.”
