Melbourne Heart FC’s new number 10 Harry Kewell reflects on his pre-season campaign so far with the Red and White.

Melbourne Heart FC’s new number 10 Harry Kewell admits pre-season with his new club has been ‘tough’, but the striker admits he is enjoying the challenge.

Kewell’s first training session with the Red and White was a fortnight ago, on July 3 at AAMI Park, and in the pat two weeks Kewell says he is progressing well.

“It-s tough, they-ve really put me through my paces,” Kewell said.

“But I-m enjoying it. There is a good strong core here and the players have welcomed me with open arms and it-s exciting to be here at the moment because Melbourne Heart are building something.”

Kewell said that he had quickly adjusted to his new teammates.

“I think I-ve made friends with all of them, they-ve all been nice, which is important because as a player coming into a [new] team, you have to be able to adjust,” Kewell said.

“Being able to come in here and adjust that easily, it has been fun.”

Kewell-s main focus remains on establishing a good “foundation” of fitness ahead of the 2013-14 Hyundai A-League season to ensure he is in his best shape for round one.

“It-s all about getting a good foundation, and working at the levels where they can put me into training and start competing against all the other boys,” Kewell said.

“It-s all about preparing – we-ve still got a long way to go – [but] it-s heading in the right direction and I-m excited about that.”
