The clash

Unfortunately due to considerable damage to the Frank Holohan Soccer Complex pitch, Sunday’s match has been moved to CB Smith Reserve.

The kick off time of 4.05pm remains the same and the match will still be broadcast across Fox Sports, ABC and streaming live on Kayo and the MyFootball Live app.

WL v Victory

Rado Vidosic’s squad will be hunting it’s first win of the 2020/21 season after almost coming home with a point last week but falling agonisingly short.

City went behind in the 73rd minute in its last fixture against Canberra but a bullet header from Jenna McCormick had it back on level terms just a few minutes later.

The points looked set to be split until a Nikki Flannery last second thunderbolt broke City’s hearts and gave the home side the win.

Although City are winless through the first couple of games there has been plenty of good signs from what has been a young team out on the pitch.

Both in their first W-League seasons, Tori Tumeth has been solid at the back while Sarah Cain has been a key part of City’s midfield.

Japanese attacker Chinatsu Kira recorded an assist on her City debut against Canberra and City fans can expect to see more of her this Sunday after she now has another week of training under her belt after coming out of quarantine.

As City did, Victory started its season with a scoreless draw away to Brisbane Roar.

They too will be hunting a first win of the season and will also be looking to reverse last seasons derby form with City claiming all three points in both meetings.

What was said

“I’m the type of player that will always give 100% no matter what so that’s what you’ll get from me this weekend, but that being said – derbies are always extra special. I’m really looking forward to it and the girls have been up and about in training, we all can’t wait.”
