The clash

Melbourne City FC will be vying to keep their dream of an unprecedented fourth championship trophy alive when they host Western Sydney Wanderers for a spot in the 2020 Westfield W-League Grand Final.

Following an unbeaten regular season which saw them crowned as the Premiers, City will look to continue on with that form when they host the Wanderers at ABD Stadium on Sunday.

Prior to the international break which saw nine City stars depart Melbourne, Rado Vidosic’s side finished the regular season with a 3-1 win over Brisbane Roar to make it 11 consecutive wins as Milica Mijatovic scored a screamer from the edge of the area before American star Ally Watt netted an impressive brace.

Despite leading the way this season, City will be well aware of the threat the Wanderers possess in what is set to be a mouth-watering semi-final.

One of the standout teams of the competition, Western Sydney finished the season with a 2-3 win over Perth Glory at WML Stadium.

A blistering first 30 minutes of play saw the Wanderers take a 3-0 lead on enemy territory as Sam Staab opened the scoring before Kristen Hamilton extended their advantage with a quick-fire double. Perth hit back in the second period with goals to Celia Jimenez and Morgan Andrews, but the Wanderers fought off the late fight to secure their first ever finals appearance.

With the Wanderers determined to continue their history-making run and City eager to once again re-write the history books, we’re set for a cracker on Sunday afternoon.
