The clash

A point away from securing the Premiers Plate, Melbourne City FC head to Marconi Stadium to take on fellow top-four opponents Western Sydney Wanderers on Thursday night.

Head Coach Rado Vidosic and his side are fresh off a commanding performance where they defeated crosstown rivals Melbourne Victory 0-4 at Lakeside Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Emily van Egmond continued her incredible run of form, as she opened the scoring with aplomb from range. Scottish international Claire Emslie ran rampant all afternoon and was rewarded with a neat double, while Kyah Simon sealed the points and the derby bragging rights with a poacher’s effort.

A short turnaround won’t be City’s only concern, as they face a fierce Wanderers outfit who will be eager to bounce back from Round 12’s Sydney Derby loss.

The Wanderers suffered a 0-3 loss to Sydney FC at Cromer Park on the weekend, as goals to Veronica Latsko, Ellie Brush and Sofia Huerta saw them go down.

With City chasing the premiers plate and the Wanderers looking to secure a finals position, we’re set for an enthralling battle at Marconi Stadium on Thursday night.
