We Deserved The Win: Aloisi

Melbourne Heart FC John Aloisi has revealed his excitement at scoring the winning goal in his side’s memorable 2-1 triumph over Adelaide United at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday night.

Melbourne Heart FC John Aloisi has revealed his excitement at scoring the winning goal in his side-s memorable 2-1 triumph over Adelaide United at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday night.

In a dramatic finale, Heart scored twice in the final five minutes through Captain Simon Colosimo and Aloisi to overturn a 0-1 deficit and reignite the Club-s Hyundai A-League season.

Aloisi-s strike, his fourth of the season, was particularly memorable given the match was potentially his final outing at Hindmarsh Stadium.

The Socceroo legend-s kick-started his career at the ground while still a teenager nearly 20 years ago, turning out for the black and white of Adelaide City.

Aloisi admitted the poignancy of his goal and the significance of the match added to the occasion.

“I made my debut here 19 years ago and I knew this was probably my last game at Hindmarsh,” he said. “It’s exciting to be on the winning team and exciting to score the winning goal.”

While Heart fell behind just before half time, Aloisi revealed the side never lost faith, remaining confident of claiming a result from the contest.

And given the manner of Heart-s performance in the second half, the victory was certainly deserved as the away side went close numerous times before its late show.

“During the time we’ve been losing we kept coming back and tonight we never gave up. In the second half we never gave up and in the second half we came out and kept going,” he said.

“I thought we deserved the win and I’m just happy to hit the back of the net. This might turn the season around now.”
