Weekend wrap-up: Three from three!

WWU

It was a great weekend to be a City fan with the Club winning all three of its fixtures.

Patrick Kisnorbo’s A-League squad kicked things off with a strong 3-0 win in their first meeting with Macarthur, before our senior NPL team took plenty of lessons from last week’s A-League Melbourne Derby and put seven past Victory in their final pre-season hit-out on Satuday.

After a lot of hard work for not much reward in recent times, our City women picked up a well deserved win on Sunday – defeating Newcastle 1-0 at Kingston Heath

A-League: City 3-0 Macarthur FC

City continued on it’s winning ways, extending its current streak to four in a row.

Tom Glover and the City defence picked up a third consecutive clean sheet, with Glover remarkably only facing three shots on target across those fixtures.

Jamie Maclaren continued his scintillating run of form, scoring twice in three minutes before winger Craig Noone made it three after just over half an hour of action.

A professional second half performance saw City move into second spot for the brief window of 24 hours, while Maclaren is up to 10 goals for the season and is now three clear in the Golden Boot race.

W-League: City 1-0 Newcastle

Rado Vidosic’s squad got back to winners list on Sunday, grinding out a 1-0 result at Kingston Heath.

Back in action just days after hosting Western Sydney on Thursday, our City women didn’t look to miss a beat and quickly settled into the match, controlling the early possession.

Chinatsu Kira was at her dangerous best for City, causing problems for the Jets defence all afternoon and being rewarded in the 42nd minute with her first W-League goal.

While their were no further goals, a strong second half defensively saw City record it’s second clean sheet of the season and most importantly – the win.

NPL: City 7-1 Victory

Raph

With the season kicking off this Friday, our NPL squad had its final pre-season hit out on Saturday.

City were off to a fast start as Max Caputo found the back of the net in just the seventh minute.

Coming off his first A-League goal a week earlier, Stefan Colakovski netted from the penalty spot in the 20th, before adding his second for the day just ten minutes later.

City led 4-0 at the break with Marco Tilio also getting his name on the scoresheet before the half time whistle.

Colakovski completed his hattrick in the 69th minute before Bernardo Olivera and Naoki Tsubaki did some more damage, the only blemish for City coming from the penalty spot with ten minutes to play.

Starting XI: Matthew SUTTON (gk), Scott GALLOWAY, Kerrin STOKES, Alec MILLS, Ben GARUCCIO (c), Jordi VALADON, Raphael BORGES-RODRIGUES, Max CAPUTO, Marco TILIO, Stefan COLAKOVSKI, Naoki TSUBAKI.

Goals: Caputo (7′), Colakovski (20′ P, 30′, 69′), Tilio (37′), Oliveira (77′), Tsubaki (83′).
