Melbourne Heart FC midfielder Matt Thompson is thrilled with the way the side’s recent performances, but is quite happy to remain under the radar after claiming all three points in Perth.

“If we play to our potential we can beat anybody. Central Coast have been fantastic, Brisbane have been fantastic even though they haven-t had a great run of late, but I-m not phased if everybody focuses on those two teams and we keep flying under the radar,” Thompson said.

“We-re very happy where we are at the moment considering the start we had. We were probably unlucky at the start of the season not to get more points than we did. Finally we-ve turned the corner and a little bit of luck has come with it.

“There are games like tonight where 6 weeks ago we would have lost. Its not the case now, we are finding ways to win which is great.”

Thompson, who got on the score sheet after a good bit of team play, was quick to heap the plaudits on his team mates, saying that it was Heart-s depth that was responsible for the win over the Glory.

“Everyone is playing their part, and when you can leave quality players at home in Melbourne, it-s a good thing to have. Whoever has been coming off the bench for us has been doing jobs. Jason came on for myself today and got a good touch to Aziz, then Aziz shoots and Mate scores,” Thompson said

Thompson was also very pleased with how Heart-s defence has improved in recent weeks, after conceding some soft goals in the opening few rounds of the season.

He said: “We-re working together more. John (van-t Schip) has made a point of it; if we can make ourselves strong that will make it harder for teams to beat us.

“We also have that speed and mobility in the front third and midfield to get forward quick and catch them on the counter. That-s what happened with the second goal tonight which was great.”
