Head Coach John van’t Schip has wished the Club’s former international marquee Orlando Engelaar success with his new club, FC Twente.

Engelaar, who joined the Club as a new international recruit under John Aloisi, suffered a broken leg in pre-season in August 2013, which saw him play 12 matches for the Club.

In the appearances he made, Engelaar made a fantastic contribution, scoring five goals, impressing crowds with his tight ball control, range of passing and exisite distribution.

Engelaar’s incredible goal from half-way against Central Coast Mariners last season – which was voted goal of the Hyundai A-League 2013/14 season – will remain one of the best moments in A-League history.

When asked by the media what he thought of Engelaar’s move back to the Eredivisie – the Dutch top tier – van’t Schip said he was pleased that he had signed with a new club.

“Yes, I’m very pleased because Orlando is a great player, a great person, and with this new chance he has got from the coach of Twente, who is a good friend of his, he can show that he can still can play,” van’t Schip said.

“Hopefully he can stay fit, you know, that was one of his problems last year [following his injury].

“He had a very good finish last season… he is a great player and we wish him all the success in Holland.”
