David Williams made history last Saturday, netting Melbourne Heart FC-s 100th Hyundai A-League goal.

While the goal was a significant moment in Melbourne Heart-s history – and etched the number 15-s name in the Club-s history books – Williams is more concerned with the positive signs his side has displayed in the opening two rounds.

It might have felt like two points lost, but Williams was happy with the Red and White-s performance against Central Coast Mariners – despite his second-half brace being cancelled out in the 2-2 draw.

Williams registered an energetic display against the reigning Hyundai A-League champions – in the influential number 10 position vacated by the injured Harry Kewell – and netted twice against to give the Red and White a 2-0 lead.

Mariners managed to fight back, courtesy of two second-half penalties from Marcos Flores shortly after Williams had established a two goal cushion for the home side.

But Williams said the display had demonstrated that Melbourne Heart could mix it with the Mariners and was happy with his personal performance.

“I-m very happy, it was obviously a different position for me, but it definitely allowed me to get into scoring areas,” Williams said.

Williams illustrated his instinct in the front third for the game-s first goal in the 54th minute – managing to beat Mariners- keeper Justin Pasfield to a loose ball after Pasfield failed to smother an awkward shot from Golgol Mebrahtu.

“The first one was just a reaction from Golgol-s shot, and I was first to pounce and I got past the ‘keeper,” Williams said.

Williams- second has etched his name in the Melbourne Heart FC history books, with the strike the Club-s 100th Hyundai A-League goal.

But the modest Williams, attributes the goal to a great run from his teammate, Iain Ramsay.

“The second one was just a great run from Iain – he-s such a talent and one of the pick-ups of the off-season, so I-m definitely looking forward to playing more with him,” Williams said.

Williams has been one of Heart-s standout performers in the opening two rounds with six shots on goal, 84 touches and 45 passes with a passing accuracy of 88.9 per cent.

Williams will travel in Melbourne Heart-s squad for the Round Three showdown against Perth Glory on Sunday.
