Y-League Preview: Brisbane v City

Melbourne City Y-League team will be determined to get its first win of the season in Saturday afternoon’s return game against Brisbane Roar.

After its last two tight matches that ended in unfortunate losses, the Melbourne team is still sitting fourth in Conference A, having picked up two points from its first two  games.

Indeed, City suffered another defeat last Sunday against cross-town rivals Melbourne Victory. A frantic opening 10 minutes saw two goals scored, with the visitor’s opening the scoring inside the first two minutes before Moudi Najjar fired home an equaliser on the seventh minute mark.

Despite City’s best efforts to take the lead, Victory restored their advantage in the 18th minute when Joshua Varga found the back of the net. A few minutes later, City forward Raphael Borges Rodrigues was denied an equaliser when Victory’s shot-stopper produced a solid save to deny City’s attacker.

Despite multiple City attacks, the result remained 2-1 in favour of the visitor’s at half time. Victory scored its third goal and final goal in the second half, securing the result.

City now face a tough Brisbane Roar outfit, who sit at the top of Conference A, totalling 10 points following their three wins since the beginning of the season. The Roar have been fierce in attack, piling on nine goals in their past two games, as City will look to nullify their impact going forwards.

City can take confidence as the only team to have registered a point against the Roar this season. That came in Round 3, where it was a tight battle that saw neither team able to capitalise on their chances. The clash ended in dramatic fashion when Moudi Najjar thought he netted a last minute winner, only to be ruled offside at John McEwan Reserve in Shepparton.
